The Design Critic: This is what happens when you remove all the pretty graphics and describe the concept in a few words. Is it still a strong concept?

1. The Kitchen Hideaway, Virtual Kitchen
Put on a helmet and imagine you are cooking. Minutes later, robots will deliver the food to you.

2. The Snail, Micro Induction Heating
A small portable device that you can stick on to the side of a pot to heat up your food.

3. Elements Modular Kitchen, All-In-One Kitchen Shelving
A modular, space-saving, shelf-like kitchen that allows for customization.

4. Bio Robot Refrigerator
A glob of robot-gel that you stick your food into to keep it cool.

5. Clean Closet, All-In-One Cleaning Concept
A closet that automatically cleans your clothes.

6. Dismount Washer, Wash & Go Laundry
A wall-mounted washing maching that becomes a laundry basket to save space.

7. External Refrigerator
A refrigerator, which is mounted on the outside of the house, which operates on cold weather and solar energy.

8. Eco Cleaner, Portable Compact Dishwasher
A portable dishwasher/composter that does not use water.

The Design Critic: We are pretty sure that #1 (virtual kitchen), #4 (bio-robot fridge), #6 (dismount washer) will not win. Which is your favourite concept?

We will do an in-depth review of out two favourite concepts, #2 (the snail) and #5 (clean closet) soon. Look out for it.

-The Design Critic

The 2010 edition of the Electrolux Design Lab competition focuses on creative solutions for compact living. The 2010 brief asked industrial design students to consider how people will prepare and store food, wash clothes, and do dishes in the homes of 2050, when 74%* of the global population are predicted to live in an urban environment.
